Disability Voting News: September 3, 2025

Welcome to the first Accessible Voting Booth of September! Unfortunately, this week I didn’t have time to do a write-up and analysis of disability voting rights news, but I have a good reason. Meet Oscar, Oliver’s new brother and best friend.

Oscar is a five-month-old rescue pup from Texas who made the long trip up from the Dallas/Fort Worth area last weekend.
The past four days have been filled with lots of puppy cuddles, teething, and playing, but not much sleep on my part. This means that I haven’t been able to pull together any disability voting legislation analysis for you this week! However, I have compiled some links and reminders:
- Call for Disability-Inclusive Elections in Bangladesh: Despite the fact that Bangladesh has over three million registered voters with disabilities, they estimate that only 10% have been able to cast their ballot. During a consultation on August 31st, civil society groups, election officials, policymakers, and organizations of persons with disabilities came together to discuss solutions to make the voting process more accessible to voters with disabilities in Bangladesh.
- Mail Voting is Under Attack (Again): On August 25th, The Voting Rights Lab published this helpful explainer to combat misinformation about voting by mail. In it, they explain how mail voting is safe, secure, and non-partisan and how some states are trying to ban mail voting (just as Trump is trying to do at the federal level).
- GOP War on Voting Leaves Voters with Disabilities as Collateral Damage: On August 30th, Democracy Docket published this piece detailing the history of bipartisan commitment to disability voting rights and how the GOP’s more recent efforts to stop mail voting, criminalize voter assistance, and implement documentary proof of citizenship impact disability voting rights.
- September 8-12 is National Disability Voting Rights Week! Organized by the American Association of People with Disabilities, DVRW is a nonpartisan movement to celebrate the disability community’s voting power through voter registration and education, candidate forums, digital organizing, and other creative actions. Learn more and access partner tools on AAPD’s website.
Thank you for your continued readership and your understanding as I transition to a two-pup household. Here’s a rare picture of Oliver and Oscar when they aren’t playing.
